| Gangster, born in New York City, USA. A member of a mob family headed by Lucky Luciano, he worked as a racketeer from the 1930s to the 1950s. He was convicted of drugs offences, and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment (1959). He turned informer, and was the first syndicate member ever to reveal the inner workings of the Mafia (1962). His memoirs were published as The Valachi Papers (1968) by Peter Maas. |
