| Newspaper publisher, born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Sharing ownership and control of the Chicago Tribune with his cousin, Robert McCormick, he co-founded the Illustrated Daily News (later the New York Daily News) with him in 1919. In 1925 he moved to New York to assume management of that newspaper, the first of the sensationalist mass-audience tabloids. |
