| Publisher, born in Darlington, Durham, NE England, UK. He worked as a bookbinder in London before opening his own bookbinding business in 1892. In 1888 he founded the publishing house of J M Dent & Sons, which brought out the pocket-sized Temple Classics (from 1893) and Everyman's Library (from 1904). |
