| Quaker businessman and typefounder, born in Sutton Benger, Wiltshire, S England, UK. He settled in Bristol as a doctor, but went into a pottery enterprise. He founded the well-known chocolate business (later taken over by Cadburys), and from 1764 onwards became eminent as a typefounder. In 1785 he published Specimens of Printing Types made by Joseph Fry and Sons. |
