| Writer, born in Pieusse, S France. Sur le Fleuve amour (1922) earned recognition from the Surrealists, who later rejected him after Choléra (1923). Les Poilus (1926) was based on his experience as a soldier in 1914, and in 1926 he received the Prix Fémina for Jeanne d'Arc (1925). Later works include Jésus II (1947) and François d'Assise (1960). |
