| Computer scientist, born in St Louis, Missouri, USA. He was among the first in the 1960s to recognize the potential for user-friendly computers. He published a series of papers in which he outlined the ‘man-computer symbiosis’. He was affiliated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1950–85) and made contributions in the application of computers to libraries and information storage and retrieval. |
