| Rabbi and scholar, born in Pruzhany, Belarus (formerly, Poland). He came from a family of Talmud scholars and was educated in Berlin. He went to the USA in 1932 and became rabbi of Boston's Orthodox community, then joined the faculty of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (1941), affiliated with Yeshiva University in New York. He was chairman of the Rabbinical Council of America's Halakha Commission. Although he published little, he was internationally known as an Orthodox authority and Talmudic scholar. |
