| biography:
| Composer of chamber music and opera, born in Croydon, S Greater London, UK. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, was an accomplished pianist, and composed the symphonic poems Queen Mab (1904), The Bells (1906), and Apollo and the Seaman (1908). He also wrote a trilogy of operas based on Welsh legends, the first of which, The Children of Don (1912), was performed at Salzburg in 1923. His variation of ‘Three Blind Mice’ formed his most popular composition. |
