| biography:
| Writer and painter, born in Schwadonitz, W Czech Republic, the elder brother of Karel Čapek. His early literary works, written in collaboration with his brother, include the allegorical Ze Života hmyzu (1921, The Insect Play). From such anxious visions of the future he progressed to a philosophy of sceptical humanism which found expression in his one novel, Stin Kapradiny (1930), and in his essays. |
