| biography:
| Spanish comic (and occasionally serious) poet of means who entered the religious life in 1763. His Poesías líricas, y joco-serias (1743) includes the humorous verse of his father, Francisco Bengasi (c.1656–c.1742). He wrote verse lives of the saints Vida de San Benito de Palermo (1750) in seguidillas, and Vida de San Dámaso (1752) in redondillas. The following plays are recorded: an entremés, La campana de descansar; two bailes, El amor cascamentero and El ingeniero apurado; and a comedia (que no lo es) burlesca, Llámenla como quisieren (1753). |
