| biography:
| Minor novelist and playwright, born in Sevilla, SW Spain. His political principles led him to leave Spain in 1831 for Paris and Switzerland. On his return to Spain in 1834 he was seized with his friend Espronceda whose Poesías (1840) he was to introduce. He produced a verse translation of Shakespeare's Macbeth and two interesting original plays in the historical genre, Los amores de 1790 (1838) and El astrólogo de Vallodolid (1839). He is now remembered for his single historical novel El golpe en vago: cuento de la decimoctava centuria (6 vols, 1835). |
