| biography:
| Poet, born in Sevilla, SW Spain. He studied in Sevilla and Alcalá, and travelled to Italy as captain of the guard of the Duke of Alcalá, viceroy of Naples, and governor of Capua. His own verse was printed in Rimas. Primera parte (1624), Ariadna (1624), a poem in octaves, and Cristales de Helicona, o Segunda parte de las Rimas (1642), but he was perhaps more significant to Spanish literary history for his annotated, laudatory Obras de don Luis de Góngora, comentadas (1635-8). |
