| Broadcaster, writer, and journalist, the son of Richard Dimbleby, born in London, UK. He studied at University College London, and became a reporter for the BBC (1969–71). Well known as a presenter of television current-affairs documentaries (1972–88), he hosted On the Record for BBC-TV (1988–93), and regularly fronts programmes on major national events, such as the general election. In 1997 he presented the BBC television series The Last Governor about Chris Patten's governorship of Hong Kong. His controversial ‘official’ biography of the Prince of Wales appeared in 1994. |
