| biography:
| Writer and clergyman, born in Möðruvellir, NC Iceland. Educated in France, he became a Jesuit scholar and taught at a Catholic school in Denmark. During convalescence in The Netherlands from a severe illness (1911–12) he began to write a series of children's books about a boy called Nonni growing up in the N of Iceland, which made him a best-selling author. The Nonni books, originally written in German, have been translated into many languages. |
