| biography:
| Singer and composer, born in Savannah, Georgia, USA. He came to prominence during the 1930s as a singer, lyricist, and composer. He founded Capitol Records in 1942, and collaborated with popular composers to produce numerous hit songs, such as ‘Jeepers Creepers’ and ‘That Old Black Magic’. He won Oscars for several of his lyrics, including ‘In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening’ (1951), ‘Days of Wine and Roses’ (1961), and ‘Moon River’ (1962). He contributed to many Broadway musicals and Hollywood films, and was the first president of the Songwriters' Hall of Fame. |
