| Science-fiction writer, born in Knowle, West Midlands, C England, UK. He worked at a variety of jobs, then in the late 1920s began to write science-fiction tales for popular magazines, achieving fame with his first novel, The Day of the Triffids (1951). His other books include The Kraken Wakes (1953), The Chrysalids (1955), and The Midwich Cuckoos (1957), as well as collections of short stories, such as The Seeds of Time (1969). |
