| Anthropologist, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. He taught at Washington University, St Louis, MO (1959). His interdisciplinary studies covered a broad range of subjects including human ecology, social and cultural theory, Asian and North American society, and economic development. Among his books are Paternalism in the Japanese Economy (1963), Northern Plainsmen (1969, revised 1976), and Of Time and the Enterprise (1982). |
