| Newspaper proprietor, the grandson of John Walter, born in London, UK. A barrister by profession, he became proprietor of The Times in 1847. In 1866 he introduced the important cylindrical Walter press, in which, for the first time, curved stereotyped plates and reels of newsprint were used. |
