| biography:
| Chemical engineer and metallurgist, born in Newark, New Jersey, USA. While managing a cyanide mill in South Dakota in the early 1900s, he developed the Dorr classifier for extracting ore, which became a practical method for the separation and chemical treatment of fine solids suspended in liquid. His technology was used in sewage treatment, water purification, de-silting projects, and sugar production. He founded the Dorr Company in New York City (1916) and the Dorr Foundation (1950). |
