| Gardener, born in Meopham, Kent, SE England, UK. He went to Virginia to collect plants and shells (1637), and succeeded his father as head gardener to Charles I in 1638. He bequeathed the celebrated Musaeum Tradescantianum in Lambeth to Elias Ashmole (1617–92), and it became the basis for the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. |
