| Auctioneer and antiquarian. He was the nephew of Samuel Baker, who founded the first sale room in Britain exclusively for books, manuscripts, and prints at Covent Garden in 1744. He became a director of the firm (1780–1800), then known as Leigh & Sotheby, which was transferred to the Strand in 1803. |
