| Basketball coach, born in Martinsville, Indiana, USA. As a student he was College Player of the Year (1932), but it was as coach that his reputation grew. He was head basketball coach at the University of California, Los Angeles (1948–75), and named Coach of the Year by the US Writers Association six times between 1964 and 1973. |
