| Murderer, born in Yorkshire, N England, UK. He was hanged at London for the murder of his wife, and confessed to the murder of six other women, including the wife of Timothy John Evans, who lived in the same house. Evans had been convicted and hanged for the murder of his infant daughter in 1950, and also charged with his wife's murder. After a special inquiry, Evans was granted a free pardon in 1966. The trial of Christie thus played an important part in altering British legislation affecting the death penalty. |
