| biography:
| Clergyman and scholar, born in Weinsberg, SWC Germany. He studied at Heidelberg, became tutor to the sons of the Elector Palatine, and subsequently preacher at Weinsberg (1510) and Basel (1515), where Erasmus employed him on his Greek New Testament. In 1520 he entered a monastery, but under Luther's influence became a reformer at Basel in 1522 as preacher and professor of theology. |
