| Explorer, born in Dysart, Fife, E Scotland, UK. He accompanied Captain Charles Sturt's Australian expedition (1844–6), made six expeditions into the interior (1858–62), and in 1860 crossed Australia from south to north. Mt Stuart is named after him. |
