| Snooker player, born in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He turned professional in 1992, and became known in 1994–5 when he was the first teenager to win three ranking events in a season. His wins include the German Open (1995, 1997), the British Open (1995, 1998), the European Open (1997), and Liverpool Victoria United Kingdom Championship (2000). His win in the Embassy World Championship (1998) gave him the No 1 ranking position (previously held by Stephen Hendry), which he retained in 1999. |
