| Businessman, born in East Wheatfield Township, Pennsylvania, USA. In 1882 he opened his first 5 & 10 cent store in Scottdale, PA, and by 1901 he had 20 stores with annual sales of $498 000. He incorporated in 1915 with 118 stores. When he retired (1933), there were 244 McCrory's in the E and S states. Four months after he retired the company declared bankruptcy, and by 1943 the chain had dwindled to 197 stores. |
