| Sportsman and journalist, born in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, SW Wales, UK. A champion walker and oarsman, he founded the Amateur Athletic Club in 1866, and drew up the rules for amateur athletic competitions. In 1867 he drew up the rules for boxing, promulgated under the aegis of the 8th Marquess of Queensberry. |
