| biography:
| British general and military thinker, born in Chichester, West Sussex, S England, UK. He served in South Africa, and in World War 1 as a staff officer with the Tank Corps. He planned the breakthrough tank battle of Cambrai in 1917, and proposed the unfulfilled ‘Plan 1919’, advocating an all-mechanized army. His ideas were discounted, and he retired in 1933 to continue his prophetic if controversial military writings. |
