| Inventor and pioneer of steampower, born in Windsor, Connecticut, USA. In 1787 he successfully demonstrated a prototype steam boat on the Delaware R, before building and operating a larger paddle-wheeled ferry between Phildelphia and Burlington, NJ. Despite the reliability of his vessels, and holding US and French patents for steamboats (1791), he was not successful commercially. |
