| Writer, born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA. He studied at Columbia University (1943, 1945–6) and the New School for Social Research (1949–50). He wrote novels and essays describing the Beat Generation, as in Nothing More to Declare (1967), and also published poetry, was a lecturer at writing workshops, and taught at the University of Arkansas (from 1977). |
