| US governor, federal official, and judge, born in Keokuk Co, Iowa, USA. He moved to the Dakota Territory (1888) and served in the North Dakota state senate (1893–5). He was the Democratic governor of North Dakota (1907–12) and treasurer of the United States (1913–21), after which he served on the North Dakota Supreme Court (1925–37). North Dakota placed his statue in the US Capitol. |
