| biography:
| Biologist and geneticist, born in Oxford, Oxfordshire SC England, UK, the son of John Scott Haldane. He studied at Oxford, became reader in biochemistry at Cambridge (1922–32), and professor of genetics (1933–57) and of biometry (1937–57) at London. He then emigrated to India, adopting Indian nationality, and worked in Kolkata (Calcutta) and Orissa. He wrote widely on his subject, and was well known for his popularizations. He was also chairman of the editorial board of the Daily Worker (1940–9), but left the British Communist Party in 1956. |
