| biography:
| Artist and writer, born in London, UK. He studied at Kingston Art School and the Royal College of Art. A leading protagonist of English ‘New Realism’, in the mid-1950s he was associated with the ‘kitchen sink’ school because of his preoccupation with working-class domestic interiors, as in ‘Baby in Pram’ (Liverpool). He represented Britain at the 1956 Vienna Biennale, but after that his reputation declined. He also wrote several novels, including Breakdown (1960), with his own illustrations. |
