| biography:
| Scottish writer and clergyman. He studied at St Andrews and the Sorbonne. His translations in 1533 of Boece's Historia Gentis Scotorum, and of the first five books of Livy, are interesting as vigorous specimens of early Scottish prose. He enjoyed great favour at the court of James V, and became Archdeacon of Moray and Canon of Ross. Becoming involved in ecclesiastical controversy, he went into exile in Rome. |
