| Scholar, probably born in Compiègne, NE France. He studied at Soissons, and is considered to be the founder of Nominalism. His most famous pupil was Abelard. In 1092 the Council of Soissons condemned his teaching as implicitly involving the negation of the doctrine of the Trinity. |
