| Physicist, born in Halmstad, SW Sweden. He studied at the University of Lund, and became a lecturer there (1882), then professor (1901–19). Best known for his theoretical studies of spectral series, he developed a formula for spectral lines, incorporating the Rydberg constant, named after him. |
