| Zoologist, born in Vang, SC Norway. Professor of zoology at Copenhagen (1845–85), he identified the animal remains from Ertebolle settlements and shell mounds (1851), thus making the earliest contribution to the discipline of archaeozoology. He has written books covering such subjects as hermaphroditism, alternation of generations, flounders' eyes, and cephalopods. |
