| Poet and playwright, born in Copenhagen, Denmark. After serving as a soldier, he devoted himself to poetry. He is best known for his prose tragedy, Rolf Krage (1770) and his mythological play Balders Död (1773, The Death of Baldur). The national song of Denmark comes from his operetta, Fiskerne (1779, The Fishermen). |
