| Roman Catholic theologian, born in Egg, N Switzerland. He became professor of theology at Ingolstadt (1510), and was the ruling spirit of that university until his death. After his Leipzig disputation with Luther, he wrote on papal authority, and went to Rome in 1520, returning with the bull which declared Luther a heretic. |
