| Lyric poet, the leader of the Swabian School, born in Tübingen, SW Germany. He studied law at Tübingen and wrote his first poems there. He was active in politics, becoming a Liberal deputy for Tübingen at the assemblies of Württemberg (1819) and Frankfurt (1848). His collection of poems (1815) contained many popular ballads reflecting his interest in folklore and mediaeval studies. |
