| biography:
| Roman Catholic theologian, born in Bamberg, SEC Germany. He was professor of ecclesiastical history and law at Munich almost continuously from 1826 to 1871, when he was elected rector. Following the decree of papal infallibility, in 1871 he issued a letter withholding his submission. Excommunicated, he took a leading part in the summoning of the congress in Munich out of which arose the Old Catholics. |
