| biography:
| Poet and writer, born in Velp, E Netherlands. He worked as a journalist, and drama and dance critic. His first work, the moving poems In Memoriam (1921), were written after the death of a loved one. His consequent work was less intimate, and he introduced humour into his poetry. His ballad Maria Lécina (1932) became very popular. Humour is also an ingredient in his many travel accounts and works about culinary subjects. |
