| biography:
| Poet and philosopher, born in Westervoort, E Netherlands. He studied classics in Leiden, and became a teacher. Athough born into a Protestant family, he rejected any dogmatism, both in religion and philosophy. He found his truth in Indian mysticism - the Brahman as eternal unity that embraces all contradictions. His poetry was published under his pseudonym, the name meaning ‘he who has overcome duality’. Although his poetry is mystical and philosophical and demands much from the reader, the clarity of the everyday language he used to express himself is remarkable. |
