| biography:
| Player of American football, born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, USA. He joined the New York Jets from the unbeaten University of Alabama team in 1965, and became one of the leading quarterbacks in the 1960s. He led the Jets to a Super Bowl victory in 1969, beating Baltimore for the first win by an American Football League team over the established National Football League. His lifestyle outside football attracted a great deal of publicity, hence his nickname. After his retirement (1978), he remained in the public eye, with appearances in films and on television. |
