At the age of nine he began his studies at the Escola de Belles Arts in Olot. At age 13 he set up his own workshop, where he also taught, and at 17 he moved to Barcelona where he worked for Martí i Alsina. From 1869 he resided permanently in Olot and founded the Artistic Centre there. On his death an exhibition covering his life's achievements in 60 of his paintings was presented by the Sant Lluc Artistic Circle of Barcelona. A small monument to his memory was erected in the gardens of the Palau de Belles Arts in Barcelona (1915), and his bust stands at the entrance to the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, which owns many of his works. His sons were Francesc and Ramon Vayreda i Casabò. |
