| biography:
| Catalan painter, born in Sitges, E Spain. For many years he maintained an eclectic stance, attracted by Impressionism and Neoimpressionism. Later he tended towards primitivism, which was included within what was termed ‘Mediterraneanism’, and dealt with landscapes and the human figure, notably the female nude. His use of colour was remarkably sober. His work can be seen in the museums of modern art in Barcelona and Madrid and in the Museum of Bilbao. One of his best-known and significant paintings is ‘Pastoral’ (1911), acquired later for the Cambó collection. |
