| biography:
| Catalan poet, born in Barcelona, NE Spain. Self-taught, he earned a living by manual labour, then entered radical journalism c.1914 writing on social injustice in Los Miserables and Justicia, the articles collected in Humo de fábrica (1918) under his pseudonym (after Maxim Gorky). In 1917 he edited an ephemeral ‘hoja de subversión social’ entitled Un Enemic del Poble. His poetry is very different from his prose, often ironic and playful as in the poem ‘Bodegó’, and often romantic. His collections were Poemes en ondes hertzianes (1919), L'irradiador del port i les gavines (1921), Les conspiracions (1922), La gesta estels (1922), El poema de la rosa als llavis (1923), the posthumous Óssa menor (1925), and the collected Poesies (1962). |
