| biography:
| Jazz musician and composer, born in Dallas, Texas, USA. He played clarinet and saxophones with various bands during the 1940s, then for over a decade specialized in the clarinet, developing a distinctive breathy tone. He formed groups of various sizes, early albums including Ad Lib (1959), Jimmy Giuffre With Strings (1960), and Free Fall (1962). He later worked also as a composer, his compositions including several chamber and ballet pieces, and became active in music education. |
