| Spanish composer. He studied in Bilbao and Paris and was director of the Bilbao Choral Society from 1909 and professor of the Madrid Conservatory from 1956. His inspiration and melodic quality were highly successful in his contributions to the lyrical genre, including Mirentxu (1910), Amaya (1920), El caserío (1921), and La meiga (1928). He achieved the greatest expression in his later work, such as Diez melodías vascas (1941), Sinfonía pirenaica (1946), Cuarteto n° 2 (awarded the Premio Nacional de Música, 1949), and Homenaje a Walt Disney (awarded the Premio Oscar Esplá, 1956). |
